THE QUEBEC ENTREPRENEURSHIP CONTEST CATCH THE ENTREPRENEURSHIP SPIRIT!

The Contest is proud to announce that almost 70 000 elementary to university students were involved in developing 2 729 entrepreneurial projects from all over Québec during the 2009-2010 school year. These students received support from more than 250 local Contest representatives working in school boards, private educational institutions, colleges and universities, who, like us, firmly believe that entrepreneurial projects provide youth with the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial values like leadership, autonomy, self-confidence, creativity and solidarity.

“The 2010 edition, which has just come to a close, has once again seen a remarkable participation rate. The number of people entering the Contest has remained constant over the years, which makes us extremely happy,” noted Natacha Jean, President and Director General of the Contest. “The Student Entrepreneurship Division of the Contest allows us to reach thousands of young people from the elementary to the university level and give them the unique opportunity to become involved in projects they have personally initiated. We can never say this enough: The initiatives taken by these students and the values they cultivate to develop their entrepreneurial project will become for them a treasure trove of resources they will be able to call on for the rest of their lives. These projects also play a major role in motivating students in their studies.” We have seen students undertake projects with a focus on culture, society or sports; or take initiatives that are tuned to sustainable development and cooperation or that have an impact on their community, province, country or even the world at large. Congratulations to the thousands of young people who have persevered throughout this entrepreneurial adventure.

A Herculean effort
During the next few weeks, selection juries at the local and regional levels will determine which projects will be presented to the provincial jury in May. The 2010 provincial winners will be announced on June 17, 2010, in Québec City. Hundreds of people are involved in this impressive selection process. In addition to the Student Entrepreneurship Division, more than 1 100 projects from new businesses were also submitted in the Business Creation Division in 2010.
